University London as a full-time academic. Prior to joining Brunel
Design, he was a Senior Lecturer in Product and Furniture Design De
Montfort University from 2010-2014. He played a key role in the
re-accreditation of the BSc Product Design programme for the Institution
of Engineering Designers and was the Subject Champion for the MA Design
programme. As a testament of his teaching excellence, he received
several student nominations for the Vice-Chancellor’s distinguished
teaching awards in 2014. He was also a Research Fellow at leading
institutions including Loughborough University, Brunel University and
the University of Southampton; and was a Visiting Scientist at Vaal
University of Technology and the Central University of Technology in
South Africa. Between 2013-14, he served as an external examiner for
Cranfield University's Centre for the Competitive Creative Design (C4D)
department. Eujin believe that international collaborations are
important and key partners include Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University
(China), Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (South
Korea), Central University of Technology (South Africa), Universiti
Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (Malaysia), University of Dundee (UK) and
Loughborough University (UK).Eujin's research interest covers Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Functionally Graded Additive Manufacturing (4D Printing), Inclusive Design and New Product Development. He has a track record of generating new knowledge and finding solutions for a significant impact in industry. He commercialised the output from his PhD by globally distributing 26,000 copies of iDCards which was a finalist for the Industrial Designers Society of America’s International Design Excellence Award in 2011. Taking a step further, he co-developed an Android and Apple Apps for iDCards that was a finalist for the Loughborough Enterprise Award for International Impact and Knowledge Transfer in 2014. His work has been published in the Design Journal, Co Design and the Rapid Prototyping Journal; and four research outputs were selected for inclusion to REF2014. In 2015, he contributed to a book chapter (Design Pedagogy - Developments in Art and Design Education) which reports on research to enhance communication during product development by making tacit knowledge on the use of design representations explicit for both students and practitioners. Professional Design Career Eujin was a Product Designer during the early days of his career. His professional design consultancy work included those for Motorola, Inc., LM Ericsson, Sennheiser GmbH & Co. KG, and Rentokil Initial, of which some products are still being manufactured and sold today. Through University Knowledge Transfer Programmes, he has collaborated with SMEs, such as developing 3D printing filament products in which the packaging was recognised with the International WorldStar Award in 2014 for design excellence. He advises companies in New Product Development projects including L'Earth Ltd., Quinteassential Ltd. and Watson EP Ltd. Between 2013-2014, he collaborated and delivered projects for the Leicester Arts and Museum Service where important historical artefacts from the Anglo-Saxon and Roman period were digitised and reproduced using 3D printing. He also worked with the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust to undertake a 24-month project to reverse engineer a historical tramcar which was accurately scaled down and 3D printed. Eujin believes that it is important to stay relevant in design practice. He holds numerous design awards, including the Wearable Master and Field Trial Winner for the Manchester Numbers That Matter Hackathon (2014), the International WorldStar Packaging Award (2014), IDSA IDEA Award (2011), Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design 24 hour Inclusive Design Challenge (2011), Motorola Motofwrd (2006), Opus Eyewear (2006), UK Lighting Competition (2006), RSA Design Directions (2005), Popular Science / Core 77 Security Design Competition (2004) and the President's Furniture award (2003). His work has been showcased in exhibitions such as at the Panasonic Design Centre and at the UNDU design show. Design publications and magazines include those for Dwell, Icon, FX International Design Magazine and the Straits Times Newspaper; and his projects were featured on BBC Radio Leicester. Eujin was invited as a judge for the British Promotional Merchandise Association design competition in 2010 and for Brunel University’s Research Student Conference in 2015. Peer Esteem Indicators & Professional Memberships Eujin contributes his expertise on Design and Additive Manufacturing through professional memberships that enable him to be a step ahead in policies and technology. He is the Convenor for the International Standards Organisation (ISO) Technical Committee (ISO TC261/WG4) for Data and Design Guidelines for Additive Manufacture, and contributes to the British Standards Institution (BSI) as a committee member for BS 8887 (Design for MADE Functions), BS 8888 (Technical product specification) standards, BSI AMT/8 for Additive Manufacturing and the BSI Joint Working Group for Education about Standardisation. He is a Member of the Institution of Engineering Designers (MIED), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA). He is also a Member of the Design Research Society (DRS), and Co-founder of the Inclusive Design SIG group. Within Brunel University, Eujin is a committee member for the Innovation Hub which spearheads new initiatives for student entrepreneurs. Eujin regularly reviews manuscripts for SAGE publications, the Rapid Prototyping Journal, the International Journal of Design, the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design, Recent Patents on Engineering, and for the Rapid Product Development Association of South Africa (Rapdasa). He is the Associate Editor for the Assembly Automation Journal and was a Guest Editor for the Design for All publication. He is currently the Guest Editor for the Special Issue of the Rapid Prototyping Journal that will be published by the end of 2015. Education & Personal Life Eujin holds a BA(Hons) degree in Product Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (University of the Arts London), and MSc and PhD degrees in Industrial Design from Loughborough University. This unique skill set enables him to appreciate design practice from both aesthetic and functional perspectives. He enjoys long walks along Dorset’s coast and dabbles in the occasional fossil hunting, having been invited to give talks at the Science Centre.
